I noticed this week that Mudville got a mention on a list of new baseball books in Baseball America, and baseball blogger John Ames of The Arizona Daily Star took notice. I could make much hay of this quote: Mudville (Knopf) by Kurtis Scaletta appears Pulitzer-bound, not to mention Caldecott, Newbery, Nobel, etc. Except context [...]

Caricatured!

I met a chap at The Loft last week who’s sent along this brilliant caricature. Now, I’ve been told previously by would-be caricaturists that I am hard to do, since I have no distinguishing features (not sure if that’s a compliment or not…) Anyway, I think Mr. Nesser of Minneapolis got it right. (Click the [...]

Weather has suddenly gotten springy in Minneapolis, and my wife and I couldn’t have picked a better afternoon to go to the western suburb of Wayzata for a reading/signing, dinner, a walk along the lake, ice cream, and then meeting the book club back at the book store. I was glad that the weather warmed [...]

Reminder of Upcoming Events
Posted in News & Events on April 15, 2009 | 2 Comments »
I’ll be at the Bookcase of Wayzata Thursday at 4:30 for a reading/signing and coming back for a book club discussion at 7:00. (The discussion starts at 7:00, but I’ll be a bit later so people can talk about the book without me hovering around).
I’ll also be at The Loft Literary Center on Saturday at 7:00 for a reading and signing with other cool people. Both of these events are free and open to the public.
Stuff that happened yesterday

Yesterday was an interesting (though mostly unphotographed) day. I had lunch with Karen Hoyle, whom I had as a professor many moons ago for a children’s lit class. She’s curator of the Kerlan Collection at the University of Minnesota, and took a brief tour of the tunnels where there are rows and rows of tall [...]

I had a very interesting day that I’m too tired to blog about, but wanted to get a few Mudville things posted before I forget (I’m sure I’ve forgotten others, or simply not found them). First, a store owner at Learning Express in San Antonio was nice enough to send me this photo of their [...]

Thanks to everyone who commented and/or linked to my appeal to help send Books to Africa. As promised, I sent a book per comment, and rounded up a bit… hopefully some of the 100 books going to Africa will be the ones you all recommended on this list of lists (several were listed more than [...]
Play Ball!

I just found this on YouTube to celebrate opening day for Major League Baseball (I choose to ignore the one game that was played yesterday since it involves teams I don’t care about — got that, Josh?) Lots to love in this little clip. First of all, there’s the score. I guess that’s what happens [...]
